Getting Started with AI Tools
Not sure where to begin with AI? Here's a friendly guide to finding the right tool for what you need to do.
AI tools can feel overwhelming — there are thousands of them. But the good news is you don't need to know them all. You just need to find the one that helps with what you're trying to do right now.
Start with the task, not the tool
Instead of asking "which AI should I use?", ask "what do I need to get done?" Are you trying to write faster? Generate images for a project? Transcribe a meeting? Each of those tasks has a handful of AI tools that are genuinely good at it.
That's the whole idea behind this directory — browse by task, not by hype.
Free options first
Many of the best AI tools have a free tier. ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Wispr Flow — all free to start. There's no reason to pay before you've figured out if the tool actually fits your workflow.
Try one thing at a time
Pick one tool for one task. Use it for a week. If it saves you time, keep it. If not, try another. Don't try to adopt five AI tools at once.
